U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program
Learning to play golf can be a huge challenge for anyone. For a junior new to the game, the challenge is even bigger. Too much instruction can turn them away from golf. Too little, and they can become frustrated, develop poor swing habits, and even lose interest.

To help your junior reach their full potential, the coaching staff at Torrey Pines is committed to providing balanced instruction and positive incentives to improving skills. That is why we've adopted the U.S. Kids Personal Tee Golf Learning Program. This program provides an instructional booklet at four development levels, each adding new elements as the skill level of your child climbs. Along the way to completing a booklet, your child earns achievement pins for passing skill tests. For parents, these booklets provide a way to track a young player's progress in the game.

Each booklet combines the games' fundamentals with related skill tests. Both the fundamentals and tests are checked by the coaching staff using a progress report included the booklet. Members earn achievement pins by completing the following sections in each booklet:

Putting

Putting fundamental positions are learned and check-off. Depending on the booklet's level, members are tested on short, medium and long putts.

Around the Green

Members learn chipping, pitching and sand skills. Each of these shot types have their own fundamentals and testing criteria. Achievement pin is awarded after the member has passed all three shot type skills tests.

Full Swing

Each booklet has varying test criteria for the 7-iron and Driver shot. After successfully accomplishing the fundamental swing positions, the student is tested on hitting the ball minimum distances in the air.

Knowledge

Knowledge testing covers etiquette, rules, and equipment.  Each booklet has questions and answers covering these subjects. Students are required to answer correctly a randomly picked sample of questions from the booklet.

Scoring

Each level has its own scoring test based on total yardage and hole lengths. Members must complete three golf outings, shooting a target score (or better) to earn the achievement pin.
